Illinois unemployment rate drops below 6 percent in February

North Carolina's unemployment rate fell two notches last month as the state added more than 9,000 nonfarm jobs, more than compensating for a significant decline in jobs recorded in January.

While Los Angeles and Orange counties did not post net job gains in February, both counties already had lower unemployment rates than the state.

Commissioner Braun also noted private sector employment has grown by more than 33,000 over the year.

Labor force: The labor force participation rate, at 63.0 percent.

This is an improvement from the revised January rate of 5.4 percent. Within the major sectors, there were job gains in Educational & Health Services (+400), Trade, Transportation, & Utilities (+300), Leisure & Hospitality (+200) and Manufacturing (+100). "While February numbers slipped, we're still ahead for the year and need to create positive momentum".

The gap between New Mexico and Alaska, which continues to have the second-highest unemployment rate, is now 0.4 percentage points. All of them saw the number of unemployed people drop.

Over the year, total nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania were up 1.3 percent (+74,000) while nationally jobs were up 1.7 percent.

That's up from January 2016 when the county's unemployment rate stood at 6.5 percent.

The Current Population (CPS), or the household survey, is conducted by the Census Bureau and identifies members of the work force and measures how many people are working or looking for work. In February, their unemployment rate was 7.1 percent, up from 6.7 percent in January.

"The Connecticut economy is now only adding roughly 1,000 jobs per month on average, suggesting full job recovery may not materialize until sometime in 2019", Klepper-Smith said.

Lee County moved up to the fourth best unemployment rate in the state.

IN experienced a gain of 4,400 private sector jobs over the month primarily due to gains in the Manufacturing (4,200) and Trade, Transportation & Utilities (2,300) sectors.

Meanwhile, the labor force in the state - which includes people who have jobs and the unemployed - has shrunk in each of the last three months.

The largest job loss during February occurred in construction, down 3,200 jobs to 186,100.
