A Bolder Belle in 'Beauty and the Beast'

Disney's live-action fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" dazzled again at No.1 on its second weekend at the box-office, grossing with a massive P541.67-M in just 11 days. About five teenagers who must become something extraordinary when their small town and the world is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat, the PG-13 reboot of the campy television show cost a reported 100 million USA dollars to produce.

Warner Bros. rolled out action-comedy "Chips", starring Dax Shepard and Michael Pena, amid muted expectations. Though its reviews were mixed, its brand recognition pulled the movie through into a profitable first weekend.

"You still have to deliver a solid movie that will entice people to spend their hard-earned money to go see something that they already know, or already know about", he said. According to Variety, this makes the nearly shot-for-shot remake of the Disney classic the fourth-largest second weekend of all time behind the likes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Avengers.

For Watson's part, she earned a reported $60 million for her work in the Harry Potter film series, but she's been absent from big budget franchises (and their accompanying huge salaries) since it ended - so her Beauty and the Beast deal can, and more than likely will, signal her return to the sphere of extremely well-compensated stars. "Others have had more challenges". The hit made $88.3 million in its second weekend, remaining an audience favorite. "Power Rangers" carries a $100 million price tag.

The R-rated space film stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds as astronauts who discover that the alien life form they have brought on board might be risky.

"Beauty And The Beast" has already been declared another huge success for Disney, as it has smashed numerous box office records on its way to a worldwide haul of $410 million in less than a week. The much-anticipated "Alien: Covenant" and "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" also are on the horizon. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
