A group of men shot and wounded two police officers in an ambush-style attack outside an apartment building in Miami late on Monday, media reported.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the confrontation on Northwest 62nd Avenue near 20th Street or if anyone else was injured.
NBC 6 cameras captured both men being rushed into Jackson Memorial Hospital. One officer was shot in the leg while the other was only grazed by a bullet.
A spokesperson told WSVN the officers are undercover officers and are now in stable condition.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez and Miami-Dade police Director Juan Perez arrived at the hospital shortly after the officers arrived. The injured officers were in plain clothes and appeared to be undercover. Officials blocked off the area as they investigated the incident.
"We need you to step up to the plate".
As to whether suspects remained on the loose, Miami-Dade Police would say only "the scene remains active" and asked anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 305-493-8477. "Today is the day to step up", Perez told reporters in pleading for help findhing whoever is involved.
