Reynolds, Fisher remembered for wit at memorial

The ceremony featured a new song James Blunt wrote after Fisher's death, and the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles performed a somber rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" that celebrated Fisher's status as a feminist icon.
Jackson made the journey with her two young children and her mom, Crystal, who said Reynolds and Fisher's "mother-daughter bond" was similar to the relationship she has with her own daughter.
Aykroyd recalled how he once saved Fisher's life, applying the Heimlich manoeuvre to dislodge a brussels sprout.
"I loved her honesty about all her issues she faced", Susan Schwartz of West Hollywood said about Fisher.
Reynolds and Star Wars actress Fisher died within a day of each other in December past year.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Hamill and Ford were not able to attend the memorial service, because they were traveling. Some recreated her moment from "Singin' in the Rain", one of her most popular movies. Carrie Fisher battled mental illness and addiction, exploring her struggles in the book "Postcards from the Edge". Robot R2D2 came out onto the stage looking for his princess, making plaintive noises before rolling over to an empty chair. Reynolds and Fisher died within 24 hours of each other in December.
"The rule of thumb was, come here if you want to", said Fisher.
Gavin de Becker, an author and lifelong friend of Fisher, recounted a trip to Paris when the pair stole hotel bathrobes and told the crowd how everyone in school had a crush on her. It was a very peaceful exit that only my mother could orchestrate. "And she really just said to me, 'You know, I know that was really hard on you losing your sister..." I have film of that and it will be in the memorial.' And when I was editing that, it ripped my heart out.
"There were no finer people that I had ever known than my mother and my sister". "I don't know for sure when I [will] go'".
"And then she closed her eyes and went to sleep". And I thought that was wonderful role modeling for many of us. "But instead the next morning, we had a little further dialogue and she chose to leave the planet in front of my face two feet away".
"Everyone is having a hard time".
"She knew that movies were never going to be the same, and we just knew Carrie's life was never going to be the same", Dunne said.
