"Opt in and we'll automatically round up your fare to the nearest whole dollar and push the difference toward issues impacting everyone everywhere, from climate change to the pursuit of equality", the ad reads, with the kicker, "All you gotta do is take a seat to take a stand".
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Uber and Lyft are making their final push to expand into upstate NY ahead of a key legislative deadline. That extra change will reportedly go to a number of different charities. A catch in this scheme is that you can not choose this option per ride; but you have to either opt in or opt out entirely, preferably at any time. This program will be available to passengers within the next few weeks. Moreover, Lyft app has put forward a statement in their blog -'Sit For Something', giving their customers a feel charitable vibe. You made it. And whether you tap in, or just do your bit by riding, you're sitting on a changemaker.
Many numbers of stores already allow shoppers to do something similar, and Texas ride-share nonprofit Ride Austin allows riders to do the same to "provide local charities contributions on the current basis". Uber is investigating public allegations of sexual harassment of women at its offices, and the hashtag #DeleteUber has trended on social media. They also keep big pink moustaches on their vehicle's grills, to show their pride of being a Lyft driver.
