"But you are always firmly in control".
Google Home can also interact other with devices, including TVs and speakers, by interacting with Google Chromecast.
Like the Amazon Echo, it is controlled primarily by voice, and Google Assistant draws on Google search, Maps and other services to understand and answer questions and requests using naturalised language.
Google Home will go on sale on April 6 priced at £129, and it'll feature a wide range of new UK-specific capabilities.
Google Wi-fi will be available at the same time and will also cost £129.
However, while Amazon also offers the considerably cheaper Echo Dot, which can be hooked up to your existing speaker if you don't need a new one, Google now doesn't have an equivalent.
Despite the disparity in price between the full-sized Echo and Google Home, Amazon does sell a smaller Amazon Echo Dot, which needs to be paired with a standalone speaker to play music, for £49.99.
Google also announced its Google Wifi, its mesh system that aims to give consistently strong coverage, will come to the United Kingdom, also priced from £129, and launching on 6 April. "Within our mesh network, each Google Wifi point creates a high-powered connection, and the different Wifi points work together to determine the best path for your data", Google explained.
The Silicon Valley giant talked up its circular router at a launch event earlier today (28 March), boasting that the device brings "smarts, security and simplicity" to a home Wi-Fi experience.
