Freezing rain warning in effect for parts of southern Quebec

Snow and freezing rain is expected to hit the region overnight, leading Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for the city.

There is considerable uncertainty in forecast guidance regarding the exact location and duration of the freezing rain.

Environment Canada is warning that periods of freezing rain are expected to to develop Sunday afternoon across eastern Ontario and western Quebec and persist until the evening.

The mixed precipitation is expected to depart to the east on Friday morning.

However, in areas near the Ottawa Valley, temperatures will likely remain below freezing, warns the federal agency.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces. "Utility outages may occur".

Several schools in the Lanaudiere were closed Monday because of the slippery roads.
