Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday had some unexpected guests - Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav, her husband Prateek Yadav and Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) leader Ramvir Upadhya - at the VVIP guest house in Lucknow where he is presently putting up.
The meeting, which was billed as a "courtesy call", has fuelled speculations that the couple was veering towards the saffron party. It is noteworthy that Aparna had been defeated by Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi from the Lucknow Cantt seat in the recently concluded elections and Dr Joshi is now a senior minister in the UP government. The meeting between CM Yogi Adityanath and Aparna-Prateek lasted for about 30 minutes with. Aparna and Prateek, in fact, were the only one from the Yadav family to have paid a visit to Aditya Nath in Gorakhpur in September 2014, after the death of his guru Mahant Avaidyanath.
However, 26-year-old Aparna's interactions with BJP leaders have seen her come under attack in the past. She has publicly praised Prime Minister Modi, and even clicked and shared a selfie with him. Aparna secured 61k votes in 2017 which is not bad for a novice especially from a seat that her party never won.
When the photo generated controversy and raised questions about her political leanings, she said, "What's wrong with that?"
The Prime Minister patted the back of the former CM. She had tied the knot with Prateek (28 ) in 2011, who is a businessman and Mulayam's younger son from his second wife.
