Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has expressed the hope that as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will take everyone along. He asked the Opposition to be "graceful in defeat", accept the mandate of the people and give a "fair opportunity" to the new chief minister. That is the system in the BJP. "Even (former chief minister) Akhilesh Yadav had an elaborate pooja when he entered his new house recently". "Then, I had a meeting of the legislators". Shrikant Sharma is the other minister.
A hardline Hindu religious leader was sworn in on Sunday as head of India's most populous and politically significant northern Uttar Pradesh state. Had Yogi Adityanath not been foisted in the chief ministerial chair it would perhaps have not been so but now, all eyes would be on the governance model in UP.
In an apparent move to allay fears that he, as a long-time Hindutva icon, might discriminate against the minorities, Adityanath promised there would be no bias for or against anyone. They can not control law and order.
A couple of days back, officials of the temple had told reporters that more CCTV cameras would be installed in the temple premises from the safety and security point of view.
Adityanath, elected five times to the federal parliament from Gorakhpur in eastern Uttar Pradesh, has been magnanimous in victory, pledging to uphold Modi's slogan of "sabka saath, sabka vikas" ('all together, development for all').
The Chief Minister also met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah.
After fighting, and winning the UP elections, on the plank of development, the BJP's nomination of Yogi Adityanath, a man notorious for his diatribes, has come as a complete shocker to many, and possibly also to some who may have voted for the BJP.
In the face of this situation, the CPM called upon all democratic and secular forces in UP to unitedly work to ensure the safeguarding of communal amity and the protection of the rights of all sections of people in accordance with the constitutional guarantees. "There is nothing wrong in it". "It is wrong to criticize Yogi Adityanath's elevation to the post of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister". "Sanitation has to be taken on a war-footing", he said.
