I've been in other leagues. I was thinking of the bears and the birds atop Wolverton Mountain. I think it's starting to scratch the surface, when you talk about recruiting, the coaches that are in place. The ACC tournament in Brooklyn was a showcase of excellent basketball, or so it seemed.
The Blue Devils have now exited the tournament before the Sweet 16 five times in the last 11 seasons, and have reached the Elite Eight just three times in the past 13. Why not four in the Four?
Let's look at my infamous picks.
In North Carolina, legislation has been filed that would repeal HB2 and expand LGBT protections, and Gov. Roy Cooper, elected in November, has called on the legislature to repeal the law. The Gamecocks made 7 of 35 shots, with twice as many attempts as Duke (17).
However, the Bulldogs aren't a lock to make it past West Virginia in the third round.
I'm bracing for the final 2:45 of this game when Carolina just stops scoring. Louisville was sent home by MI.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, without a hint of ceremony, it happened: Greenville, this charming little city on the banks of the Reedy River, became the epicenter of Duke hatred.
The Spartans certainly played anything like an underdog well into the second half against the regular-season Big 12 Conference champions, closing Kansas' lead to 54-53 following a basket by Alvin Ellis. My Twitter feed jumped on the bandwagon out of hatred for Duke, and all of a sudden it felt like the world was cheering this historically shit-ass ball club on like it was the Jamaican bobsled team. Yet they were only down by seven points to a team that so many penciled into their Final Fours.
Villanova senior Josh Hart, who sat more than 8 minutes in the first half with two fouls, opened the second half with a layup and DiVincenzo, who added 13 rebounds, hit a 3 to cap a 13-2 burst that knocked the air out of Mount St. Mary's. "(Dozier) got those couple fast-break dunks", Thornwell said of the Gamecocks' rally that turned into a rout. OR shot just 4-of-16 from beyond the arc, but came away with the win by relying on freshman Ruthy Hebard, who finished with 23 points and the game-winning buzzer-beater to push the Ducks to the second round.
After shooting just 20 percent in the first half, the Gamecocks (24-10) roared out of the locker room on a 7-0 run keyed by a Notice three-point play. "I won't show it, but if they win that's good. We had 23 fouls and we average 14 a game". Not to recount all the conspiracy theories, but when last did you see that? Instead, those were relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, about 190 miles away; the NCAA announced that move in October.
The Gamecocks have played terrific defense all year long, but they won't be able to hold Baylor under 80 points in this game. "Regardless of what (others) think, we thought we would and should win the game". It was also a bow to reality.
There was a huge disparity between the clout of these programs within the world of college basketball coming into the game, and if logic followed properly SC wasn't supposed to win. Now you know why.
It might well have been.
"And we're seeing it right now".
"We're just elated to be moving on and going to the Sweet 16", said Dawn Staley. I comprehend how every league is.
MI moves on to the Sweet 16 after upsetting Louisville in the third round of the midwest region. Take the Big Ten teams and flip a coin. A trip to Madison Square Garden for the right to advance to the Final Four was still expected of this squad. "We need to be real good to compete with a team like Duke". Carolina got a stop and took possession with the shot clock off, but Thornwell missed from 3 with six seconds left and MU led 40-39 at halftime.
Do you really believe that?
Oh, I will. At this point, I've got nothing left.
