IBM gets collaborative for cloud, blockchain

The company's new IBM Cloud Object Storage Cold Vault (Cold Vault) service allows their clients to access cold storage data on the IBM Cloud much quicker than before, indicating "in hundreds of milliseconds instead of minutes".

As part of the collaboration, IBM also announced that it has become a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider, Additionally, as part of the agreement, Red Hat Cloud Access will be available for IBM Cloud by the end of the second quarter of 2017, allowing Red Hat customers to move eligible, unused Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions from their data centers to public, virtualized cloud environments in IBM Cloud data centers.

Red Hat and IBM have joined forces to work on spreading the adoption of hybrid cloud by offering Red Hat's OpenStack services on IBM's private cloud platform.

IBM Cloud Product Insights: Extends new hybrid cloud capabilities to IBM software products so that IT administrators or capacity planners can view, track, and report usage metrics in a single dashboard.

IBM also announced it is now a Red Hat Certified Cloud and Service Provider, an effort to make customers feel more confident in using Red Hat's OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Ceph Storage on IBM Private Cloud when it becomes generally available at the end of this month. As a result, IBM indicates that this will help to reduce unnecessary data center expansion and will give AltaVault users the ability leverage the flexibility, security and regional fault tolerance of IBM Cloud Object Storage. "Companies are rapidly choosing to blend their existing infrastructure within multiple cloud environments, creating a hybrid cloud framework that continues to provide them with the speed and control they require to optimize their enterprise", said Arvind Krishna, Senior Vice President, Hybrid Cloud and Director of IBM Research. This new announcement sees Veritas certify the IBM Cloud Object Storage family of software and cloud services for use with the forthcoming Veritas NetBackup 8.0. NetBackup 8.0 has an anticipated availability of 2Q17 and will be available for order from the IBM Bluemix Catalog of services, providing mutual IBM and Veritas clients flexible, consumption-based pricing and customizable configurations. "Veritas is a great example of a company using IBM Cloud to innovate for both its business and its clients".

IBM and Red Hat said they will provide the hybrid cloud infrastructure to help customers more efficiently run cloud applications using OpenStack APIs. NetApp's AltaVault cloud backup solutions will now automatically be able to send backups to IBM Cloud Object Storage on IBM Cloud. "These new solutions further the progress of our Data Fabric strategy and strengthen our leadership in helping customers seamlessly manage their data in the hybrid cloud era".
