Defenseman Dougie Hamilton (46 points) recorded a goal and four assists in his last four games while Gaudreau, Backlund and Sean Monahan (46 points) combined for only a goal and assist in the last three contests.
The Flames moved into third in the Pacific Division past the Edmonton Oilers, who will host Los Angeles on Monday.
The Kings got goals from Dustin Brown and Nic Dowd.
"It's just that every game I've played against him basically, me and him get after it a little bit", Doughty said via LA Kings Insider. "Those quick strikes hurt us".
The incident occurred late in first period of Calgary's 5-2 victory over the Kings on Sunday. "You're not in a normal routine of eating and drinking and getting all the nutrients you usually get in, but I wanted to get back in there", Elliott, who is 14-1-1 with a 1.87 goals-against average and.936 save percentage in his past 16 starts, told reporters.
Tkachuk was behind the Kings' net Sunday night when the puck rimmed around the boards toward him. With time to perform any number of evasive or defensive manoeuvres, Tkachuk instead takes his bottom hand off of his stick and throws an elbow into Doughty in a way that can not be considered inadvertent, reflexive or defensive.
In 68 games, Tkachuk has 13 goals and 46 points, tied for fifth among National Hockey League rookies. Ferland's absence made room for Curtis Lazar to make his debut for the Flames.
The Kings couldn't get much going after that as the Flames tightened up defensively to record their second straight win and 12th in their past 13 games.
Tkachuk will miss the Flames' upcoming games Tuesday at the Washington Capitals and Thursday at the Nashville Predators.
