Donald Trump slides down Forbes list of world's billionaires

The richest person with a tech fortune - who's also the richest person in the world-is Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates.

"Although Donald Trump's name is plastered on buildings all around the world, his core assets are still located in a small part of New York City", said Dan Alexander, an associate editor at Forbes Media.

US President Donald Trump saw his rank slide 220 spots on the list to 544, with his wealth now estimated at US$3.5 billion, a decline of US$1 billion from past year.

The highest ranking woman on the list was L'Oreal cosmetics shareholder Liliane Bettencourt, who was 14th with $39.5 billion (roughly Rs. 2,58,318 crores).

Forbes' attributed his fall to the state of the Manhattan real estate market in which Mr Trump has invested a disproportionate amount of his fortune. He ranked 717th on the latest list, down from 612th a year ago.

In the 30th anniversary edition of its annual listing of the world's billionaires, Forbes estimates that Trump's fortune has fallen over the past year by $1 billion U.S. to $3.5 billion.

Jeff Bezos: The CEO and founder of e-commerce giant Amazon, Bezos' current net worth is $73.8 billion. Breaking up the numbers, 1,371 members of the list were self-made billionaires; 238 inherited their wealth; while another 434 inherited at least a portion but are still growing it.

American business magnate Warren Buffett reclaimed the second spot on the list for the first time since 2014, with a net worth of $75.6 billion, up from $60.8 billion in 2016.

Goodnight's personal fortune soared to $9.4 billion as of March 20, Forbes reported Monday morning as part of its annual "World's Billionaires' list".

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was number five and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison was number seven.

President Donald Trump comes in on the list at No. 544, with a net worth of $3.5 billion. Besoz showed the biggest increase, with his net worth shooting up from $27.6 billion from past year. Dean White, who made his fortune in billboards and hotels, died a year ago.
