Shooting star Timo Werner called up by Germany

Werner has put in some impressive performances up front for Leipzig, scoring 14 goals and handing out four assists in 24 Bundesliga appearances so far this term.

After facing England next Wednesday, Germany travel to face Azerbaijan four days later, who they lead by five points at the top of Group C in the battle to reach Russian Federation 2018.

Young German striker Timo Werner is happy at his current club and has no immediate plans to move on, amid reports we're considering a bid for his services.

Werner, who has netted 14 times in 24 games so far this season, was selected for global duty with Germany for the first time last week and could make his debut against England on Wednesday. "He's very flexible and has consistently played at a high level this season".

Bayern Munich's defender Jerome Boateng, who has just returned from shoulder surgery misses out.

Borussia Dortmund players Marco Reus and Mario Goetze were ruled out through injury.

Germany coach Joachim Loew called up Leipzig forward Timo Werner for the first time and World Cup victor Lukas Podolski for the last time on Friday for upcoming games against England and Azerbaijan.

"It's great that Lukas will get a send-off in these fantastic settings", Loew said. "It is a worthy departure and he fully deserves it", Loew said.
