Rita's continues first day of Spring tradition, offers free ice

3 Good riddance: In Poland on the first day of spring, people gather to burn an effigy and throw it in the river to bid winter farewell.

As is tradition, Rita's Water Ice is giving away a serving of their delicious frozen treat to every customer that comes in today. "It's expected that more than 500,000 pounds of free Italian Ice will be given out as part of the beloved annual celebration, which is heavier than the weight of the Statue of Liberty". In order to enter, you need to take a photo of yourself on the first day of spring - "show us your tongue, your excitement for Rita's and everything in between!" - and upload it Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #RitasFirstDayofSpring. Frozen treat fans can use the Rita's Italian Ice locator to find your nearest store. This year the company is also holding a free ice for a year contest.

Rita's Italian Ice opened its doors in Bensalem in 1984 and has been dedicated to spreading "Ice, Custard and Happiness" ever since.

Lastly Outback Steakhouse is offering a free bloomin' onion appetizer with any purchase today at their restaurants. All Just Born sweets are made in the U.S.

1992 marked Rita's Italian Ice's first-ever First Day of Spring Free Italian Ice Giveaway. They'll also be revealing three new flavors, including Peeps, Twizzlers and birch beer.
