The chipset will be using dual core CPU with clock speeds of 1.1 GHz and Qualcomm Adreno GPU for graphic intensive tasks. The newly launched chip is the first addition to the Qualcomm Mobile brand that the US chip maker announced last week.
The Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform allows us to bring 4G connectivity and services to the masses with devices at price points never seen before.
Coming to features of the new Qualcomm 205 SoC, the new chipset supports all 2G, 3G and 4G networks along with LTE Cat 4 modem with up to 150 Mbps download speed and up to 50 Mbps upload speed.
Although most of the metropolitan phone users usually own a feature phone as a secondary device, if at all, these cheap phones register nearly 1/3rd or more sales in developing nations in Latin America, Indian subcontinent and South-east Asia.
QUALCOMM HAS ANNOUNCED the 205 Mobile Platform (sigh), which looks to bring 4G and VoLTE to stripped-back phones aimed at emerging markets.
According to Qualcomm, the 205 Mobile Platform and its associated software has been developed in India, keeping in touch with the "Make in India" initiative. Further, it can take in 802.11 b/g/n bands for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, ANT+ and FM Radio. Now, these chips will find their way inside future feature and flip phones and in regions where there is no LTE support. Qualcomm also says that the processor supports a "Linux-based OS" and hence it is expected a toned down version of our beloved Android OS should work just fine.
The Snapdragon 205 Platform also packs in support for satellite systems like GPS, GLONASS and Beidou.
The new Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform is created to bring 4G LTE connectivity and 4G services to entry-level feature phones.
Semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm Technologies announced the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform, a new entry-level system-on-chip (SoC) that officially launched in India today. For that, Qualcomm has revealed a list of OEMs and ODMs which include Micromax, Reliance Jio, LYF, Borqs, CKT, Flex etc.
"The launch of Qualcomm 205 is a chipset for 4G feature phones which provides opportunity for OEMs, operators and content providers to extend experience of 4G on feature phones", Qualcomm Technologies Senior Vice President Jim Cathey said here.
With the inclusion of 4G LTE into feature phones, the very concept of a "feature phone" is scheduled for a redefinition.
