EMT Dead, Another Injured After Stolen Ambulance Hits Them in the Bronx

One FDNY EMT is dead and another is injured after their ambulance was stolen and they were then run over with their own vehicle.

The EMTs, both women, were struck at 7:10 p.m., at the corner of White Plains Rd. and Watson Ave.in Soundview, sources said.

Shortly afterward, another emergency vehicle that may belong to the off-duty MTA officer who made the arrest arrives at the intersection. The EMTs were struck when they tried to chase the stolen ambulance.

There appears to be white smoke coming out of the ambulance after it crashed - perhaps a sign that the front wheel was spinning as the driver had his foot on the gas after colliding into a parked auto.

One person was in police custody. The female worker later died, while the male worker remained hospitalized Thursday night.

Mayor de Blasio was headed to Jacobi Hospital Thursday night, according to a tweet from spokesman Eric Phillips.

Justin Lopez, 20, told the Daily News he shot the video of the episode as his brother was driving. "I realized he was hijacking the auto".
