The new auto starts at $52,500, but that version tops out at a range of 240 miles, a tad better than the Tesla's base of 210 miles.
Based on the Federal tax credits, the vehicle will be available for only $52,500, which is cheaper than the base Model S. Also, Lucid will have 200,000 cars to sell before its tax incentives are over, but for Tesla, the tax incentives may end at the end of this year only once the company pushes out for deliveries of its Model 3. After federal tax credit in the US, however, the Lucid Air comes in at $52,500, giving it the impression that it's a lot more affordable than originally expected.
Perks will mostly come in the form of more power and creature comforts. Lucid Motors previously said it would begin producing its cars in the fourth quarter of 2018. This is a surprise departure from the initial reports that indicated a much higher base price. Well, that's what the manufacturers of the all-electric Lucid Air, a Silicon Valley-made would-be Tesla killer, want you to think.
The Air will have the equivalent of 400 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and the hardware necessary for autonomous driving.
For the cost of entry, Lucid Air buyers will get a 400 horsepower, rear-wheel drive electric sedan capable of covering 240 miles on a single charge. Lucid Motors expects to start production at its Casa Grande, Arizona plant late next year, with a target of 10,000 cars manufactured in the first twelve months.
Other luxury options include a glass canopy roof, 22-way power front seats with heating, ventilation, dynamic bolsters, and massage, 21-inch wheels, a 29-speak audio system, and expanded leather trim and other material upgrades.
The Lucid Air will be available with a number of upgrades, which will push the price north of $100,000.
On Wednesday, though, Lucid pulled back the curtain on the base model of the Air. The Launch Editions will have a battery with 315 miles of range and 1,000 horsepower, all-wheel drive motor.
Also coming is a well-optioned "Launch Edition" Air, equipped with the 315-mile battery and "unique colors and badging".
