Former Arizona Cardinals LB Alex Okafor signs with New Orleans Saints

"We've been through so much at Texas (together)", Okafor said. That's my guy, and I'm looking forward to going out there and competing with him again.

Vaccaro and Okafor were captains together at Texas, and now the pair work out together in California during the offseason. His ability to pass the rusher off the edge is something the Saints have lacked for quite some time. So, I didn't get too excited about the opportunity, but then once the talks started heating up and it became apparent that we can make this thing real, I was all in.

In fact, it was Vaccaro that played a role in recruiting him to New Orleans.

A starter in 2014 and 2015, Okafor had his best season in 2014, when he compiled 30 tackles, to go along with 8 sacks, both career highs.

The team has added outside linebacker/defensive end Alex Okafor, after signing the free agent edge rusher to an undisclosed contract.

The Arizona Cardinals knew they needed depth at the outside linebacker position. He played through a torn biceps while appearing in 15 games as a reserve last season and finished the year with 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. As a senior with the Longhorns, Okafor had 12.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss.

The 26-year-old was a rotational pass-rusher in Arizona, but he has the potential to be an upgrade over the guys who have been rotating in that spot with the Saints over the past two years.
