Los Angeles Police: Nobody holding New Orleans native Richard Simmons 'hostage'

"There was something about his housekeeper holding him hostage and not allowing people to see him and preventing him from making phone calls and it was all garbage and that's why we went out to see him. None of it is true", Detective Kevin Becker told People on Thursday. A rumor that his maid, Teresa Reveles, is holding him hostage surfaced on the show. He is doing exactly what he wants to do.

Throughout his career, fitness guru Richard Simmons appeared with Howard Stern on numerous incarnations of Stern's radio program.

"He's not angry with anybody. I don't understand it". On a recent episode, Simmons' former masseuse and friend Mauro Oliveira said the New Orleans native is being controlled by his housekeeper. "I am just in my house right now".

We pay for juicy info! But his longtime publicist Tom Estey told CNN in an email Sunday that "everything is fine" with Simmons.

According to People, Estey said: "Theresa is the housekeeper, she's the caretaker, she is extraordinary, she is incredible, she takes impeccable care of Richard and she has for as long as I have been working with Richard".

Simmons was last seen in public in February of 2014.

Simmons has been a recluse for close to four years, and last March his friends feared he had been "kidnapped" by his housekeeper.

"No one is holding me in my house as a hostage", Richard said live on-air.

"Teresa has been working with him for, since I've been working with him [27 years]". He was trembling. He said, 'Mauro, I called you here because we can not see each other anymore.

Even after the telephone interview, Dan Taberski didn't believe that Richard Simmons was alright.

Simmons continued: "For the last 40 years I have been traveling, teaching classes, and I had a knee injury, so I had a knee replacement, which was very hard for me".

'I have really just been taking it easy, staying at home, working out in my gym and doing the things I haven't done in a very long time'. "It's nearly like we're a married couple". "I am being kind to myself and putting myself first", the 68-year-old said on Facebook at the time. "Although I am not transitioning, I have and always will be supportive of those who are going through their journey".
