HSBC appoints AIA boss as new chairman

Tucker would take over as group chairman designate from September 1 and as non-executive group chairman on october 1. It is the first time that the bank has hired from outside for the role in its 151-year history.

HSBC has appointed Mark Tucker, the current chief executive of Asian insurer AIA, as group chairman. Tucker will be the first outsider in HSBC's 152-year existence to occupy the position of chairman.

Tucker's major task will be to find a successor to Chief Executive Officer Stuart Gulliver, who has led the bank for more than six years.

- AIA announced that Ng Keng Hooi, AIA's regional chief executive, would take over as CEO with immediate effect.

Tucker, a one-time trainee professional soccer player in Britain, joined AIA in 2010 after a previous role as chief executive of Prudential Plc.
