Duke just got through with a tough ACC Tournament which helped them immensely.
If all goes according to seed, Duke would get another shot at Villanova, the No. 1 seed in the East and the 2016 national champion, in the Final Eight in NY.
Kansas, Villanova and North Carolina are the other No. 1 seeds.
Ultimately, Duke received a 2-seed in the East regional, the same region as the No. 1 overall seed Villanova Wildcats. In both 2010 and 2015, the Blue Devils were the top seed in that region.
In the West, Gonzaga and Arizona are the 1 and 2 seeds that I'm most confident about moving to the Elite Eight (if Gonzaga can get past a potential meeting with Notre Dame in the Sweet 16).
The Blue Devils struggled with consistency at times this season, even losing once to rival North Carolina State - which won only four league games and fired its head coach this year - in January.
The Blue Devils' ACC Tournament title jumped them from an anticipated four seed all the way up to the two line.
Another distraction for the team has been its star guard Grayson Allen, who was disciplined again this season for tripping an opposing player - the third time he'd done so in 2016.
"We were hurt - a back operation, and they had bad feet", Krzyzewski said.
"We haven't paid any attention to standings or seeds for this tournament or rankings".
But Duke's uneven season didn't deter the money on the Blue Devils. Along the way, the Blue Devils defeated No. 10 Louisville, No. 6 North Carolina and No. 22 Notre Dame, overcoming second-half deficits in each contest.
The Blue Devils are 107-35 (.754) all-time in the NCAA Tournament, marking the best winning percentage in tournament history.
SC is in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004 and the Gamecocks haven't won an NCAA Tournament game since 1973, quite the contrast from Duke's lineage of five NCAA championships since 1991. Coach K gets his wish on Friday game.
With the scoring machine that is Luke Kennard and the senior leadership of Amile Jefferson, this team has to be considered one of the four best teams entering the tournament next week, and we think the selection committee will agree.
