The war of thrones is finally set to conclude and with the date set for 11 March, Uttar Pradesh will get their new Chief Minister.
A poll of exit polls at 7 pm based on an average of four surveys showed the BJP getting 179 seats in UP, which has 403 assembly seats.
In the first press conference that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi addressed with Mr. Yadav, he had said that while the BJP's ideology was unsafe for India, the BSP's was not. UP is always considered as the political hub in India, as it has given as many as five Prime Ministers to the country.
Let us recall, BJP made its debut in Manipur elections in 2012 but faced an embarrassing defeat with not a single assembly seat. "I am saying that the Samajwadi-Congress alliance will win majority of the seats and form government", Akhilesh said. His camping at Varanasi for three days gave the BJP that cutting edge over others.
Akhilesh Yadav came out of a family feud that saw him dethrone his father Mulayam Singh Yadav as Samajwadi Party chief, to seek re-election in partnership with the Congress. He coined the slogan- Kaam Bolta Hai, which Modi countered with "Karnaama Bolta Hai" jibe. This time, BJP president Amit Shah worked on non-Yadav OBCs plus non-Jatav SCs formula.
In case no party wins a majority in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh said, "We don't want the BJP to run Uttar Pradesh with a remote control".
This has surprised many as in the past, Ms. Mayawati has tied up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on more than one occasion.
But, the exit polls suggest that the SP-Congress alliance has got only 30 per cent votes.
"Ram Gopal Yadav's comments contradict the stand taken by Akhilesh from time to time".
Asked whether his inconclusive reply on the question of a post-poll alliance should be viewed as a tacit acceptance, Akhilesh added: "I am repeating that I believe farmers, women and youths have supported the Samajwadi Party".
