Yes, you read that right, the title says it all. Two mobile industry executives told Economic Times that he is reaching out to investors for his smartphone ventures and will be holding a majority stake himself or through his family.
Bollywood actor Salman Khan is famous for his clothing brand - Being Human.
Citing two "top executives" who did not wish to be named, ET reported that Khan has already selected a Chinese plant to manufacture the Android-based phones, which are to be priced under ₹20,000.
Currently, Khan is building up an operational management team which will constitute professional resources from the likes of the Samsung and Micromax, said the report. BeingSmart' will focus on smartphones aimed at the entry level/ mid range market.
This is not surprising as it was bound to happen from the past experiences. The plan is to initially sell smartphones online, before moving to offline sales through large retail chains.
The proceeds from the venture, like Being Human clothing line, will be directed to charity and social work carried out by the star's Being Human Foundation. Categorically speaking, the smartphone market in India is already crowded with OEMs trying to make their mark but it's interesting to watch how a celebrity driven smartphone company will fare in the market. Let's just hope that all the features work like Global Positioning System and Navigation so no more accidents and also lets hope that the software updates come on time other than just releasing them on EID.
Apart from modest technical specifications, we hope Being Smart to feature some smart apps that would help Bhai's fans to stay out of trouble.
Salman Khan is arguably one of the most popular Bollywood superstars and is also known for his philanthropic efforts via Being Human.
