Wednesday's hockey violence was all in response to a dirty hit by Malkin on Wheeler on February 16th. Wheeler landed several blows before taking Malkin to the ice.
Reasonable minds might think that would settle the hostilities, but apparently it did not.
After the two skill players were sent to the box, heavyweight fighters Tom Sestito and Chris Thorburn renewed their rivalry after the ensuing faceoff two seconds later.
The Penguins responded less than a minute later when a quick shot by Nick Bonino seemed to catch Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck by surprise and got past him.
Krejci capped a four-goal first period and Marchand scored again in the second for the Bruins. He has already improved his AHL offensive totals from last season in eight less games played. Over the past two seasons, Sestito has two assists and 43 penalty minutes in 12 games with Pittsburgh.
Niklas Kronwall had his first goal of the season for Detroit.
Enstrom left the ice after the hit and has since been ruled out of the game with an upper-body injury.
Later in the period, Sesto delivered a risky hit on Jets forward Tobias Enstrom in the corner of Winnipeg's offensive zone. Enstrom did not return to the game.
The fight occurred three-and-a-half minutes into the game. Wheeler was somehow not injured and continued playing in the game. The Penguins scored on three of their five power play chances ... Malkin also picked up an assist on Schultz's goal, giving him a fight, a goal, and an assist for the "Gordie Howe hat trick".
