BlackBerry Aurora is the latest BB-branded Android smartphone

Other features of the BlackBerry Aurora include a 5-inch 1280×720 display and an 8-megapixel camera on its face as well as a 13-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus around back. While an affordable smartphone giving the Indian markets a miss may sound counter-intuitive, that's because the phone is being manufactured under licence from BlackBerry by Indonesian phone maker BB Merah Putih.

The company quietly launched another smartphone yesterday in Indonesia called the Aurora.

BlackBerry Aurora smartphone, which was recently found listed for pre-order on a couple of Indonesian retailer's websites, is now made official by the BB Merah Putih, which holds the brand licensing agreement for manufacturing and selling BlackBerry-branded smartphones Indonesia. It isn't as unique as, say, the BlackBerry PRIV or even the KEYone in that it doesn't have a physical keyboard.

With 178g weight and 152 x 76.8 x 8.5 mm dimension, the Blackberry Aurora runs on 7.0 Nougat Android with Black, Silver and Gold Color Options. There's, however, no word yet on when BlackBerry plans to officially launch the smartphone in India. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz, paired with an impressive 4GB of RAM.

"The phone is not only the first BlackBerry-branded device to ever be produced in Indonesia, but it is the first BlackBerry device in the world to be equipped with dual-SIM functionality", said Stanly Widjaja, Vice President, BB Merah Putih. There is also DTEK by BlackBerry app on the device that monitors the security and alerts when the privacy of the content is at risk.

The Aurora also has 32GB of storage, plus a microSD card slot with support for cards of up to 256GB.

Hot on the heels of BlackBerry KEYone's announcement at MWC 2017, the company has unveiled a new smartphone in Indonesia dubbed "Aurora". It also comes with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi and Global Positioning System support.

As such, the BlackBerry Aurora is billed more as a lower mid-range phone, especially with a price tag of 3,499,000 IDR, or roughly $260. The pre-order offer for Blackberry Auror ends on March 12.
