Twitter Deletes David 'KKK' Duke's Account

But beyond accusing former President Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower, there was also a Twitter war between a former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and a celebrity chef.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed that Duke's account had been mistakenly suspended.

A user named @StandUpWhiteMan lamented: "Dr David Duke's account now suspended". Duke tweeted that he wasn't sure why the account was taken down.

Duke responded with, "Typical dumb actor - if everything I say is wrong, then when I say I oppose these Zionists wars, you must be for them, Captain America!?"

Duke, a white nationalist, made headlines a few weeks ago when he and Captain America star Chris Evans traded barbs on Twitter. Duke later tweeted saying he did not know why he was suspended.

On Twitter, supporters rallied around Duke, offering their own takes on why he was booted from Twitter - many imagining a Jewish plot. Since January, the company has rolled out better spam filters and algorithmic tools to de-prioritize egg accounts and comments from trolls. Last week the company announced that it was using algorithms to identify accounts engaging in abusive behavior. It's unclear whether the suspension was the result of any new algorithmic abuse prevention practices. Twitter suspended and later reinstated white nationalist Richard Spencer in December, and the social network permanently banned conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos last summer.

Twitter has not yet responded to a request for comment from Fox News on the circumstances surrounding Duke's apparent suspension and the restoration of his account.

For Duke's part, he appears hopeful that the (potentially mistaken) suspension and re-instatement will help him get a verified Twitter account.
