Ed Sheeran's 'Divide' Breaks 1 Billion YouTube Views Mark

Ed Sheeran performs at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Released last Friday, 'Divide' is pretty much a dead-cert to be one of 2017's biggest-selling albums - and one of the year's most-streamed albums, too. "I had to find new things to write about, so I guess I dwelled on my family a bit".

As Ed Sheeran's new music takes over the charts across the world this week, the singer-songwriter is on track to claim the "double" on home soil as he charges to Number 1 on the Official UK Albums and Singles Chart with bumper sales.

Also notable is the country's continued proclivity for soundtrack albums and best-ofs, with Jessica Mauboy's The Secret Daughter (Songs From The TV Series) looking at a rise into the top 40 alongside Cold Chisel's The Best Of Cold Chisel - All For You and Crowded House's The Very Very Best Of Crowded House, among other movers.

Addressing the magnitude of Sheeran's sales and the positive response to Divide, Ben Cook, president of Atlantic Records UK, said in a statement: "Ed is an artist that inspires a generation, and the release of Divide is a global event". It places third on the list.

The all-time list for first-week sales has Adele's 25 and Oasis's Be Here Now at the top with 800,000 each.

Sheeran's third album, titled ÷ (Divide), has become a monster hit since its release on Friday.

When it comes to romance, the England-born pop singer is getting serious with girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.

"She lives three or four miles away from me where I grew up, and we live together now, we just got cats", Sheeran revealed when he guested on KIIS FM's Kyle and Jackie O Show, an Australian radio program.
