49ers Free-Agency Rumors: San Francisco Reportedly Targeting Pierre Garcon

With Washington likely expecting a major return for Cousins - and with Cousins likely expecting a significant haul on a long-term deal - it could be too hard for San Francisco to put it all together.

The 49ers are focused on signing veteran free-agent wide receiver Pierre Garcon to reunite him with new coach Kyle Shanahan, according to an NFL Network report. The Washington Redskins placed the exclusive rights franchise tag on Cousins last month.

He is obviously their first choice and the best choice available for them.

Garcon has also been teammates with quarterback Kirk Cousins for each season of Cousins' five-year career.

The top external option for Cousins continues to be the San Francisco 49ers.

There is not much clarity coming from the Washington Redskins organization about what is going on with Kirk Cousins.

"It's an expensive marriage and we'll see in terms of trade compensation that would take to get him, maybe something that happens in a year". The interest makes sense: Garcon led the National Football League in catches (113) and ranked eighth in yards (1,346) in 2013, which was 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's final season as Washington's offensive coordinator.

While Griffin has suffered numerous injuries, he still has a shot at becoming a star with the Cleveland Browns.

While he wouldn't give San Francisco the field-stretching, big-play threat the offense still desperately needs, he would provide whatever quarterback ultimately ends up being under center next season for the Niners a solid possession receiver and safety net.

Cousins has compiled impressive numbers in his two years as the starter in Washington, and his overall stats rank with some of the best QB's in the game today.
