A total of eleven production and concept vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and smart were on show at "Meet Mercedes".
While Daimler has yet to issue an official recall notice for South Africa, Mercedes-Benz SA has confirmed that local cars aren't entirely out of the danger zone just yet.
Daimler, who own Mercedes-Benz, have said that the issue affects certain A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class and CLA cars and GLA and GLC SUVs. Out of the 1 million cars recalled, 307,629 are in the United States, and 75,000 units are in the UK.
Customers in the USA will be informed of the recalls taking place across the Atlantic this month, Reuters' report stated, adding that work on affected cars in the United States will begin in July when parts will become available for a fix. When you try to start the auto numerous times, a high electric current could run through the starting current limiter which causes the engine to overheat and potentially catch alight.
Out of 51 fires reported, 30 were in the US, while the rest were reported in other parts of the world, including China and Germany.
The new E-Class launched as the Long Wheel Base version has registered the "highest ever" booking for any single vehicle across its models for Mercedes Benz. Customers have been urged to bring their cars to designated dealers and the fix will be applied free of cost and will take approximately 1 hour.
