Unfortunately, Woodley and Thompson's welterweight title rematch was nowhere near as exciting as their first fight, as a gun shy Woodley failed to let his hands go, and Thompson pushed Woodley back, but failed to land any especially meaningful offense.
Of course the backstory was the all-out war they already had, so when they put on the opposite at UFC 209, it only intensified the fact that there wasn't much anticipation for this fight overall, and fans' reasons why seemingly came true when it fell short in multiple directions. And in a lightweight bout, David Teymur bested Lando Vannata in a sensational match.
Woodley outstruck Thompson 66 to 42.
Vannata has done a good job of making a name for himself in the UFC with his performances so far - giving interim title contender Tony Ferguson a tough fight and then claiming a spectacular wheel kick knockout against John Madkessi.
Conversely, Thompson landed at a 41 percent rate and did not have either a knockdown or takedown of Woodley. "I think you have a little more duty as an entertainer or a fighter".
"I like Tyron, it's just, he's talented, you've heard me say all the things he is before".
Kelly has been overlooked since he first appeared on the UFC scene via "The Ultimate Fighter Nations" but has somehow put together six victories in seven octagon appearances and can not be counted out any longer. He was given a 10-8 fifth round on the card that ruled a draw. Or, more specifically, the T-Mobile Arena is officially the home of the UFC. I was hesitant but we were both hesitant. Once he's ready to return, "Wonderboy" will look to start a new streak against whoever the UFC matches him up with next.
"I had it 3-2 the other way". Prior to this unfortunate fight, Diaz gave up decisions in welterweight title fights with Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit. "You've gotta have that rivalry, you've gotta have that X-factor to really sell pay-per-views".
And "The Chosen One" nearly knocked out Wonderboy with only seconds of the fight remaining when he rocked the challenger with a huge overhand right. Lightweight champion Conor McGregor may get all the spotlight, but MMA fans know that Nurmagomedov and Ferguson are the real deal. Mark Hunt and Alistair Overeem round out the main card for the night. They sure seem to, though, and they've been bumped up to co-main event on Saturday's card after Nurmagomedov was pulled.
Middleweight Dan Kelly, 39, used pressure, volume and a wide-range of techniques to stifle 37-year-old Rashad Evans, who made his first appearance at 185lbs.
