Ian Wright slams decision to drop Alexis Sanchez against Liverpool

The Chile worldwide was surprisingly on the bench for last night's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

By then, Wenger's players will have faced the four-goal deficit against Bayern, though this top four battle seems his hardest ever. He proved that when he played Danny Welbeck through for his goal but there is no doubt that this decision will pile more pressure on Wenger.

"Some players would rather live in London or Manchester instead of Liverpool, so we have to make a decision and try and make it happen".

"The real preparation for this game, the specific Arsenal game, you use pictures from the last three or four games of Arsenal, not from the longer past". Between the Arsene Wenger contract escapades, the Massimiliano Allegri rumors and the Alexis Sanchez standoff, we have not been starved of headlines. And that's perfectly fine and reasonable, but then Alexis should have started instead of Alex Iwobi or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain behind them, not on the bench. "We can not ignore it".

But he could sense a gradual change of the mood in his camp as the days passed.

"Everybody will come to the same conclusion but I'm strong enough and lucid enough to analyze the impact", Wenger said.

"It's not a law".

"If I would have thought after Wednesday if you'd asked me whether we can win against Arsenal the answer would have been no. But you can not say I'm in exactly the same mood that I was at the beginning of the season". We all know what we did last week and how we played.

"The performance tonight should not be a surprise because the boys have played already a few times like this". Three goals, including that gorgeous counter-attack right at the end.

Firmino and Mane scored Liverpool's first two goals in a blistering first-half performance.

He added that the Gunners are "getting further away from competing".

It is nearly beside the point that Wenger's full-backs were utterly absent when each of the decisive first half goals were scored, by Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. How should I be in exactly the same mood as I was in the beginning of the season?

"I have no special regrets, the only regret is to have lost the game", said Wenger. But now mainly up, still. "It means we work on the things we are not as good as [we should be]". You can understand that sometimes people lose a little bit of patience but we can't. If Liverpool could be more consistent against the teams in the bottom half of the table, they really would be a force to be reckoned with.
