Rallies held around the nation for President Trump

DAVENPORT- More than 200 people rallied to show support for President Donald Trump at the Davenport Guns Warehouse March 4th, 2017.

The rally was one of several March 4 Trump events planned around the country. Labiche said he likes that Trump speaks his mind and that he has said he wants to lower taxes.

"Well it's more than an anti-Trump protest", says Lehmkuhle, "It's more of pro of American values protest to me".

Rallies also took place in Nashville, New York and at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

Trump supporters and protesters shared a few heated words that gave rise to some contentious moments, but there was no violence at the rally.

"There are a lot of angry groups protesting, and we thought it was important to show our support", said Peter Boykin, president of Gays for Trump, who helped organize the Washington rally. "I found it very rewarding this morning, and I was glad to have the opportunity to have been a part of it", explained Vanderbilt University professor Carol Swain.

"We just wanted to make our presence known - make sure they know we're still here".

Before Trump, Labiche said he had not attended many political rallies, but has gone out to see the president speak four times, including at his inauguration. Some of the marchers waved USA flags.

President Trump flew to his Palm beach home on Friday to a crowd of dozens waiting to greet him.

Brandon Blanchard, 24, among a small group of anti-Trump protesters, said he had come in support of immigrants, Muslims and transgender people, groups that have been negatively targeted by Trump's rhetoric or policies.

Supporters of President Donald Trump are hoping to unite people with a rally on the capitol steps in Springfield today. "President Trump's been doing exactly what he said he was going to do", but has been treated differently than past presidents, including Barack Obama, he said.

Local organizers Melanie Groves and Jessica Wetherholt said this is the only March4Trump event in IL today, although other organizations are holding similar events.

A small group of protesters brought signs highlighting alleged ties between members of the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Police then separated the protesters and counterprotesters, allowing the latter to gather on a broad stairway.

She added there was heavy security at the scene, including San Diego police officers.
