Ms. Hicks added, "Jared has had meetings with many other foreign countries and representatives - as many as two dozen other foreign countries' leaders and representatives".
"We also ask that you examine communications between Attorney General Sessions and the White House regarding recusal or the pending investigations, and the extent to which the Attorney General was involved in these investigations prior to his recusal. How could he be so cruel?"
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing possible communications between Trump campaign aides and Russian officials. Sessions sorta kinda offered to possibly consider recusing himself, saying: "I have said whenever it's appropriate, I will recuse myself".
"When I showed the president of Russian Federation a Krispy Kreme doughnut and he ate it and said it was good, that was one of the more surreal moments I've had in politics", Schumer said at the time.
In a fairly contradictory statement given on Wednesday night, Sessions said: "I have never met with any Russian officials to discuss issues of the campaign". (Flynn and Trump were not in office at the time of the call.) And in general, there have been questions about just how involved Trump's team was with Russia's hacks of the Clinton campaign's and Democrats' emails.
Sessions, a former Republican senator and an advisor to USA president Donald Trump during the race, had testified during his Senate confirmation hearing in January that he had not had communications with the Russians during the campaign.
"The Judiciary Committee's Democrats also asked DOJ's inspector general Michael Horowitz to" conduct a thorough investigation" into Session's decision to recuse himself from any Russian Federation investigation.
NPR next asked Gardner whether Sessions should recuse himself from the investigation into Russia's interference in the US election. There must be an independent, bipartisan, outside commission to investigate the full extent of the Trump political, personal and financial connections to the Russians.
But Sessions did not disclose his meetings with the Russian envoy despite being asked about it specifically. Sessions has so far resisted calls to recuse himself.
"AG Sessions should clarify his testimony and recuse himself", Jason Chaffetz, a member of the House Government Oversight Committee, said in a post on Twitter. Attorney General Sessions should resign.
The attorney-general is not the first official in the Trump administration facing allegations of having contacts with Russian officials. Given his role as a leading Trump ally, it was already incumbent on Sessions to recuse himself from the process, but now that we know about his contacts with a Russian official during the campaign, the debate is effectively over.
Sessions "should resign immediately", he said.
