PM Modi woos Varanasi, promises to restore Kashi's 'lost glory'

The SP-Congress alliance hopes to cause an upset in three of the five Assembly segments here now held by the BJP.

PM Modi began with taking a jibe on the opposition parties for asking proofs of the surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army in 2016 and accused them of doubting the credibility of Indian soldiers.

Expressing full confidence in his party's chances in the state polls, the Prime Minister said that even if he had not visited Kashi, his own constituency, BJP would have emerged victorious, however, he still wanted to come and address the people as they were close to his heart. "After I exposed how this government works, based on their website, a jittery Akhilesh has ordered removal of that web page which proves how bad this government has been performing". "We are also laying a gas pipeline from Gujarat to Gorakhpur and once that work is over, everyone will have gas supply".

Assuring people that once BJP government is formed in UP, the first decision they would take is to waive loans of small farmers. "I will provide 24 hours electricity and for this, I don't need to swear on Mother Ganga", Modi said. He assured that if BJP comes to power women safety will be ensured. "I want a day when someone will drink pineapple juice in London and see Made in Manipur on the pack", Rahul had said at a rally on Tuesday. "For the roadshow, BJP has got people from other states".

The Rahul-Akhilesh show hit the road soon after the Prime Minister's.

Varanasi has 5 assembly segments where polling will be held in the last and seventh phase on March 8.

BSP chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav along with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi are also holding their high-octane rallies in the holy city.
