Curfew was imposed in the city following clashes over an objectionable video, allegedly circulated by two students. Internet services remained suspended nearly throughout the day and police along with PAC took out a peace march in the sensitive areas. Curfew was imposed on the night of March 2 and was relaxed for three hours yesterday.

Following the surfacing of the video which was reportedly shot on Wednesday, two communities clashed, resulting in vandalism of shops in Kharwaranganj and Kucchehri areas.

"To maintain peace and law and order, curfew restrictions in the city area have been imposed and people have been asked to stay home", District Magistrate (Kheri) Akashdeep told reporters today.

The district, after the video went viral was mounted by tensions as it forced shut down of shops and people demanded the police to hand over the accused to them, reported the Indian Express.

Police say they have arrested a Muslim youth along with two other accomplices in connection with the video.

The authorities yesterday held a peace committee meeting and took out a peace march in which people from different communities participated in large numbers. Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed in Lakhimpur city from 3.30 pm to 6 pm on Friday.

Security personnel have been deployed in strength in the town and senior officials have been camping there to monitor the situation, which was stated to be tense, but under control.

Tension had prevailed in the city after the video, which allegedly hurt religious sentiments, went viral on social media. Upon registering the complaint the cops acted promptly and identified the accused, arrested them and then later the accused were sent to judicial custody on Thursday.
