Pistons blown out by New Orleans on the road

The Pelicans were without DeMarcus Cousins, who was serving a one-game suspension for his 18th technical foul.

Anthony Davis scored 33 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Pelicans notched their 24th win in 59 games. But after the game, all the Pelicans were talking about Frazier.

"I'm not going to back down from anybody", said Frazier, who was undrafted out of Penn State in 2014 and worked his way up from the NBA Development league.

"I think he'll get a lot more shots because you really can't double-team him", Holiday said.

Rookie point guard Dejounte Murray started in place of Tony Parker (quad contusion) against the Pacers and played well down the stretch, contributing four assists and three points in the fourth quarter. "One thing led to another. They won the game and we lost, simple as that, but let's not dwell on that too much".

The game was wonderful in several statistical categories. Drummond was 1 of 10 from the line all by himself. After shooting an NBA-worst 35.5 percent from the free-throw line last season, Drummond drew ire for how he'd bounce back and improve.

The Pelicans, meanwhile, made 22 of 23 free throws. "When you're going so hard and get fouled, you just have to breathe".

Drummond missed his first eight free throws and split the final two before being ejected.

"I would say I was rushing and wasn't focused. It's the same as a turnover". Davis is 23 years and 355 days old, moving past Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

"That turned the game around", Davis said, noting that Drummond was "killing us on the boards".

"We just ran out of gas", Popovich said. "We just need everybody to play the same way they played tonight".

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said he was happy with his team's defensive effort and with Frazier's fearless confrontation with Drummond. "It's something I have to get back to". "It was just a good aggressive play by Tim, that's all". "I got away from that and it took away from me being relaxed at the line". With Cousins on the sidelines Wednesday, Holiday should benefit as the unquestioned second option on offense behind Davis. "The Jrue Holiday point guard is good enough - it's more than good enough for us".

Dante Cunningham added 16 for New Orleans, hitting four 3-pointers. Detroit coach Stan Van Gundy believes the Davis-Cousins tandem will pay off in the long term for the Pelicans. "It's pretty hard to play like that", Van Gundy said.

Drummond established a routine which included walking from the free-throw line to midcourt before each attempt. So I'm not going to back down from anybody.
