France certainly would have been a change of scenery for the 54-year-old - he has never managed there before but already spoke French well and could've used the Eurostar to commute from London so as not to uproot his family.
Mourinho said in a press conference earlier today: "Man United have learned that I am the monster that you think I am". "Zlatan's future - I see him staying with us because that was the initial agreement to come to him for one year plus us to have the option so I see him staying with us, fantastic successful year for him", said Mourinho.
"Wayne Rooney to Everton?" the Portuguese responded to reporters.
"He's not the player we play in the last minute or to give a gift in the winning final".
"Since the moment he made a decision to stay and to help the team and to fight for Manchester United, he's an important player for us".
"The next transfer window will bring us to a different level because I will bring in a few players".
'So I see him staying with us. I like the players to be happy and not just to be with me because I want them with me'.
With fierce competition for places and his own injury and form issues, Rooney has fallen down the pecking order at United and in turn that has resulted in constant speculation over his future.
"He improved by the physical point of view with good dedication and specific work". He is selected for tomorrow.
"Perhaps when you see a Mourinho team playing you might get the impression that he's a coach who doesn't like to play football, but it's totally the opposite - he loves that", he said.
"He is selected for tomorrow with possibilities to play - to start or to be on the bench. It wasn't probably our best performance but when you look back in 10 years, it's not how well we played but whether we won or not and, ultimately, we won".
Although United feel a lot comfortable about their chances when their top scorer is firing on all cylinders, it only begs the question, 'what would they do without him?' immediately followed by, 'how long can they keep relying on a 35-year old who may not stay beyond May?'
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
Ryan Fraser has won the most penalties of all the players in the Premier League this season (4).
