The Trump administration previously denied having contact with Russian officials during the campaign; this was later reported to be incorrect. "What is now happening in the Western media, and particularly in United States media, I believe, is manifestation of media vandalism", Zakharova said.
Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak is, by all accounts, genial, fiercely protective of Russian policy and worldwide prestige, an avid and successful social networker, and a diplomat who prefers private meetings and dinner parties to public events.
August 19: CNN reports that FBI and Justice Department prosecutors are conducting an investigation into possible U.S. ties to alleged corruption of the former pro-Russian President of Ukraine, including the work of Manafort's firm.
This meeting also came around the time that Obama's White House was throwing the sanction smack down on Russian Federation for hacking DNC emails and interfering with the 2016 election.
Things got serious, then, when National Security Advisor Michael Flynn lied about the nature of his contacts with Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak, an affair that ended his brief tenure in the Trump administration.
Page, also a member of the Trump campaign's national security advisory committee, cited "confidentiality rules" in declining to say what he discussed with the ambassador. Flynn reportedly spoke with Russian officials about those sanctions, which could be a violation of the Logan Act.
15 episode, Carter Page, Donald Trump's former presidential campaign adviser, categorically denied any contacts with Russian officials.
In related development, US President Donald Trump's Attorney General Attorney General Jeff Sessions is embroiled in accusations that he misled Congress by failing to disclose pre-election meetings with Kislyak, according to CNN. Trump tweets praise of Putin's move.
But Sessions isn't the only one who met with Kislyak.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is not the only member of President Trump's campaign who spoke to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at a diplomacy conference connected to the Republican National Convention in July.
Trump on Thursday blamed his Democratic Party opponents for the controversy over Sessions. It was all in good humor, Vershbow says, and that's the kind of ambassador Kislyak is - patriotic but personable. On the same day, reports surface of the Justice Department's warning to the administration regarding Flynn.
Kushner was not known to have participated in talks with Russian officials prior to the report.
