The Eagles are going to need a running back this offseason. Ryan Mathews, who is recovering from a neck injury, could be a salary-cap casualty when he's healthy. Finding that upgrade in this draft - the Giants own the 23rd pick - is problematic.
The question, of course, is when. So after several years in which the best college backs never amounted to much of anything in the National Football League, hope springs eternal that the recent trend will continue.
Texas running back D'Onta Foreman, who ran for 2,000 yards as a junior, said he's always dreamed about being drafted in the first round but knows how many prospects there are this year. But after those three is a collection of other running backs who could emerge as lead rushers. Fournette weighed in at 240 pounds, five pounds more than he did at LSU.
We won't know for years if Cook is right about being the best running back in this year's class, but we will find out what teams think on April 27 when picks start getting announced in Philly.
The Eagles have their requisite to-do list at the NFL Scouting Combine this week, including up to 60 interviews with draft prospects, taking notes during the various workout stations, and continuing to put their offseason plan in motion for 2017.
The Dallas Cowboys' sudden return to relevance in 2016 was largely due to rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott. Last year Elliott was the only back taken in the first round.
The Colts could draft Cook with the 14th/15th overall pick and have Gore mentor him for a season before fully turning him loose in 2018.
The Eagles likely won't have a choice with Fournette.
During those two seasons with the Volunteers, Kamara rushed for a total of 1,294 yards and 16 touchdowns. "A couple of years ago when DeMarco Murray was our running back, he had a huge impact on our football team". "I feel like I can move pretty well there, not too bulky".
And, like Gurley and Elliott, they're not planning on wasting any time joining the club. I'm just a do-it-all back.
After the top three, there is still potential Pro Bowl talent. But it also put more focus on the speed drills. Mixon was not invited after being charged in punching a woman. The incident was caught on tape. Some teams believe more in ability than just numbers.
Alvin Kamara is the definition of a boom or bust player.
"I pride myself on being extremely versatile", he said.
Mike Mayock threw it out there Trubisky might be as short as 6-1.
The race to be the first tight end taken in the draft should be a fascinating one and Howard might be the odds-on favorite in the first round.
Neither are highly-projected despite strong resumes because of the sheer depth at their respective positions in this year's draft class.
Fournette said he is confident he can brush up on his receiving and blocking skills to become an every-down back. "I have him as the fourth-best outside linebacker, I had him in the Top 25 at one point during the regular season and now I have him around 34, so I have an early second-round grade on (him)".
