Andrew Bogut will sign with Cleveland Cavaliers

Boomers star Andrew Bogut has said he will sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the remainder of the season after negotiating a buyout from the Philadelphia 76ers and then clearing waivers.

His addition comes two days after the Cavs signed veteran point guard Deron Williams, a former All-Star who gives the team depth, experience and another playmaker.

Shams Charania of The Vertical reported that Bogut was "strongly considering" the Houston Rockets and Boston Celtics but made his decision to sign with Cleveland tonight.

He knows the defending champion Cavaliers face a long road and many challenges to make June's NBA Finals. The Cavaliers will be the fourth National Basketball Association team that Bogut will be on in the last 12 months.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have won nine of their last 11 games and they will look to stay hot after Monday's 102-95 win over the Bucks. LeBron James was a real chance to sit out the game as he was dealing with strep throat, but he suited up and led the way with 24 points with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Bogut posted the UB40 music video Red Red Wine on his Twitter account to signify he was joining the Cavaliers - the team's colours include the darkish red "wine".

Veteran center Andrew Bogut has chosen to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"He likes to compete and do whatever it takes to help his team win", LeBron James said.

He was surplus to requirement in Oakland after the Warriors lured big-name free-agent Kevin Durant during the last North American summer. After being jettisoned from the Warriors previous year, Bogut may have a chance to exact revenge if the East-leading Cavs make it back to June basketball.
