K Ranks 13th in Producing Peace Corps Volunteers

The Peace Corps has announced that Hamilton College was 22 among small schools on the agency's 2017 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list.

The rankings are based on fiscal year 2016 data as of September 30, 2016, as reported by Peace Corps volunteers, according to the press release.

Joy Campbell's experience at Kalamazoo College motivated her to serve as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco.

There are 48 Spartans now volunteering worldwide.

The university also offers students interested in the Peace Corps to complete 27 months of significant global experience while completing a master's degree in social work or information. With 36 alumni now volunteering, W&M is ranked fourth among medium schools (5,000-15,000 undergraduates) in the 2017 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list. CU Boulder also is among the top five volunteer-producing universities of all time with 2,468 alumni having served in the program since it was established in 1961.

She also co-organized two "Take Our Daughters to Work" camps in the town and one national women's leadership conference, implemented a city-wide trash collection program, and co-hosted a radio show called "Tune in Togo" to teach English through American music. "Our students are singularly active, service-minded, and devoted to making the world a better place".

"With many questions out there right now about our role as Americans in the world, the Peace Corps seems to be a great landing place to practice humanitarianism and develop skills in community engagement that are readily transferrable upon return to the U.S. Really, it's a continuation of the values promoted here at Bowdoin on an worldwide level". "I learned a lot about how to adapt to new cultures and to be flexible - skills that I use on a daily basis here in Vanuatu".

"Peace Corps service is unique because unlike short-term volunteer trips overseas, volunteers can form strong friendships with host-country nationals and volunteer in a community long enough to make a sustainable impact".

This year's rankings follow the launch of a refreshed brand platform that underscores the agency's commitment to putting the user experience first and makes the Peace Corps more accessible to audiences through the platforms they already use.

A simple and personal Peace Corps application process can be completed online in about one hour.
