Jets Inform Seven-Time Pro Bowler Darrelle Revis of Impending Release

Revis, 31 and an Aliquippa native, was drafted in 2007 out of the University of Pittsburgh and played his first six seasons with NY before rejoining the team in 2015.

Revis - who played 8 seasons with the Jets - is facing several serious charges for allegedly attacking 2 men outside of a bar in Pittsburgh On February 12.

The Jets announced on Tuesday night that they are releasing the cornerback and one of the best-known faces in the NFL.

Revis' preliminary hearing has been postponed until March 15.

"I appreciate Darrelle's contributions to the organization and wherevre his career takes him, his home will always be with the Jets". He registered a career-high nine takeaways in 2015, leading the National Football League with four fumble recoveries while finishing with five interceptions.

In addition to his off-field trouble, Revis' play on the field was at its lowest in 2016.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said in the team statement, that did not include mention of this month's incident, Revis is a "consummate professional and one of the greatest to ever play the cornerback position".

Revis was selected No. 14 overall by the Jets in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Revis spent eight seasons with the organization.

Revis tweeted a response shortly after the team made the announcement.

On April 21, 2013, the Jets traded Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hightower was a first-time captain in 2016 as he helped the Patriots to their second Super Bowl title in the last three seasons. "We all have a great deal of respect for Darrelle and the significance of his time with the Jets can not be overstated". The excitement the Jets had over bringing Revis back two years ago is long gone.
