A representative for his family released a statement (via Variety) saying, "A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker".
The tribute was as much to Paxton as it was to Bill Harding, his one-time character in the movie Twister, a work-obsessed storm chaser who put a spotlight on the oft-overlooked professionals who risk their lives to chase storms and pursue better early-warning systems for tornadoes.
His big break came in 1992, when he starred opposite Billy Bob Thornton in the crime drama One False Move.
"On Sunday the National Weather Service said on Twitter, "'Twister' was an inspiration to many budding meteorologists over the last 20 years. "And I certainly picked that up from him".
Paxton was perhaps most well known for his stint on "Big Love" from 2006-2011, playing lead role and receiving 3 Golden Globe nominations.
Below, you can also see a personal tribute that Dalton paid to Paxton on social media. And on the now airing CBS series Training Day - his first for a broadcast network - he played a grizzled cop bent on disabusing a rookie partner of his dangerously idealistic aspirations. No word yet on if the series will be renewed and continue without Paxton.
