Ryan: No evidence of American 'colluding' with Russian Federation

Ryan made the comments at a breakfast event Tuesday with members of the media ahead of Trump's address to a joint session of Congress that night.

Ryan says "we really believe we are in a rescue mission here to step in and prevent this collapse from occurring".

"I've been a big time entitlement reformer for a long time because if you don't start bending the curve in the out years, we are hosed", Ryan said bluntly Tuesday morning.

"I see him as more of a chairman, as a president, much like many successful presidents have been, where he gets people around him who are detailed people who can execute those plans", Ryan (R-Wisc.) said on NBC's "Today" show.

The Trump administration has strongly denied USA media reports that campaign officials had regular contact with Russian intelligence officials. We all know that.

Trump said that he and Congress were being blamed for the healthcare problem, although he was still relatively new to the job.

Earlier this month, National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was ousted following reports he misled Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials about his frequent contacts with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the transition period before Trump's inauguration.

"If the economy sails, then I'm right, because I said I'm not touching Social Security", Trump said when asked if entitlement cuts were a necessity. "I think our country's going to sail".

"We need to make sure that nothing happened that shouldn't have happened as we go forward".

Ryan is shrugging off comments by his predecessor, Ohio Republican John Boehner, who said last week that Republicans will never agree on such a complicated and divisive issue.

Ryan, however, did not say he wanted to see a special prosecutor appointed to help investigate the potential ties. "What people like me have been saying is, for those of us in the younger generation, those of us who are X-gen on down, these programs will be bankrupt by the time we get there. The administration is opposed to changing benefits for people at or near retirement", Ryan said.
