Ryan Gosling reacts as the true victor of best picture is announced at the Oscars.
This was such a tight race as Natalie Portman, 35, earned so much praise for her title role in Jackie, playing former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in the days following President John F. Kennedy's assassination.
So while the team of La La Land looked around stunned beyond belief at what was unfolding, you had to hand it to an amused looking Gosling, who stepped back from the chaos and covered his mouth at stop from guffawing.
"I still have a lot of growing and learning and work to do and this [Oscar statue] is a really attractive symbol to continue on this journey", she told the audience.
"I also was holding my best actress in a leading role card [from the envelope] that entire time", she said adding that she also wants to find out why the mistake was made. "So we just spent a number of hours each day going through different stations doing dance rehearsal, then I would go to singing lessons and then piano lessons".
After Beatty explained that he had been given the best actress card (and not best picture) for the results, though, Stone said she was confused. Beatty looked confused as he opened the envelope to read the victor for best picture, then handed the envelope to Dunaway, who announced: "La La Land!". "Moonlight has won best picture".
"I wasn't trying to be amusing". Now, the 36-year-old Hollywood actor is nominated for his leading role in the hit musical romantic comedy-drama, "La La Land".
He said: "This was a movie about love, and I was lucky enough to fall in love while making it". One of the most emotional exchanges took place between last year's victor for Best Actress and this year's victor, Brie Larson and Emma Stone.
He said: "I wish I had something bigger and more meaningful to say".
Stone smiled said she was almost speechless. I knew I would screw this show up, I really did. This is not a joke, Moonlight, you won best picture.
