MediaTek's revamped 10-core chip will be hitting phones in Q2

Jeffrey Ju, Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer at MediaTek, said that consumers require smartphones to handle more and more tasks, and MediaTek's solutions are in accordance with the needs of doing various tasks by providing exceptional computing power in the smartphones. For those not really familiar with the system-on-a-chip, the X30 counts as MediaTek's first foray in 10-nanometer fabrication, which puts its in parallel ranking with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Samsung's Exynos 9 Series 8895, at least in terms of semiconductor fabrication. This year, it will be the Helio X30 chipset that MediaTek will be peddling to manufacturers with more robust gadgets in mind. The 64-bit deca-core CPU features a Tri-Cluster setup with 2.5GHz dual Cortex A-73 cores, 2.2GHz quad Cortex-A53 cores, and 1.9GHz quad Cortex-A35 cores.
The new technology integrates MediaTek's 10-core, Tri-Cluster architecture in its 10nm chipset thereby increasing performance by 35 percent and reducing power consumption by 50 percent. Furthermore, with the LTE WorldMode Cat.10 modem integration, the latest CPU supports two uplink Carrier Aggregation (2CA) and three downlink Carrier Aggregation (3CA) as well.
This technology will come with the Helio X30 and the company claims that it will deliver up to 25 percent more power savings over the previous version.
On the GPU front, the Helio X30 fields Imagination's PowerVR Series7XT Plus clocked at 800MHz, which according to MediaTek is 2.4 times faster than last year's Helio X20 while consuming up to 60% less power. CorePilot 4.0 pulls data from the device's thermals and relies on "user experience monitoring technology" to predict which CPU cores should be used for a particular task.
MediaTek Helio X30 also has a new a built-in Vision Processing Unit (VPU) paired with MediaTek's Imagiq 2.0 image signal processor technology.
The X30 supports displays with up to 2,560 x 1,600 in resolution, up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and eMMC 5.1 or UFS 2.1 flash memory.
