Trolls target Lily Allen in row over discrimination

Writer Caitlin Moran later stuck up for the singer, saying: "Lily Allen has had some truly disgusting s**t thrown at her today by various c**** trolling her about the death of her son".

The 31-year-old singer was blasted with hateful messages as she tried to highlight the prejudice shown towards immigrants and Muslims by replacing the words "immigrants" or "Muslims" with "pensioners" in a series of tweets.

Users began by suggesting Lily has mental health issues, to which she replied: "I DO have mental health issues".

Lily was left absolutely devastated and suffered from PTSD after her baby son was stillborn when she went into early labour at six months.

Singer Lily Allen has taken a break from Twitter after being targeted by trollers. This prompted Allen to reveal that she has bipolar disorder and had experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after her baby had been stillborn. I have dealt with it, you know, as being at one with it.

One person wrote: "Not to be a d**k but I very highly doubt it was 10 hours", to which Allen replied: "You are a d**k".

Another user even wrote, "Maybe if you didn't pump your body full of drugs you wouldn't have miscarried".

Lily briefly popped back online to share that despite reporting the abuse to Twitter, no action had been taken.

Lily made a decision to take a break from Twitter and wrote, "My timeline is full of the most disgusting, sexist, misogynistic, racist shit".

Allen briefly returned to her account to plead with Twitter to sort out the vitriolic abuse.

Advocating for more stringent controls on social media is a odd idea, because if you as much as whisper an idea of it it immediately becomes a battle of free speech and censorship, but when comments like this happen, it's easy for the people attacked to feel left out in the cold by a website who won't condemn or ban them.

A third added, "I'm really sorry for your loss".
