The PowerShares QQQ 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race will be next on the track, with the green flag dropping around 3:30 p.m.
And when it does you end up with incidents like the 18-car bingle that took place during the Xfinity series race at Daytona International Speedway in Florida. The team worked diligently in the pits to fix damage to the splitter under caution and Reed would waste no time moving his auto through the field and back to the front - taking the lead again on lap 117 and holding on through a green-white-checkered overtime finish for the win. "I've had so many people come up to me and tell me how fantastic that last win, my first win, was for certain people", said Reed, who drives for Roush Fenway Racing. "As long as we can finish the race I think a top-10 would be a great day for us, a top-5 even better".
Elliott Sadler has won the first two stages of today's season-opening race, and both have ended under caution. The NASCAR series driver led for the first 10 laps before falling back into the pack.
The key to the new system is the introduction of stages, with the top 10 drivers claiming points at the end of each stage - plus the stage victor earning a point that will carry over to the playoffs should they make it that far.
"I don't know why we were racing this hard on lap (2)".
The race was stopped for more than 18 minutes this time to clean the track of debris. "I didn't know how to do a doughnut".
"Yeah, I was pretty lucky our Hellman's Chevrolet was fast so we ran up front the majority of the race, and the wrecks were behind us", Kahne said.
Truex, who drives the No. 16 Toyota Tundra for Hattori Racing Enterprises, said in a television interview during the race that "someone got impatient, I'm guessing".
Asked how he got through the last-lap melee, he added, "I have no idea".
Six laps later, rookie Daniel Hemric ran into Regan Smith's vehicle in the third turn, igniting a nine-car wreck. In 106 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity series, it proves that he likes Daytona Beach the most. "I think it would be pretty similar". And next thing I know, we were up inside the top 3 and took the lead like we shot out of a cannon... The prize money Jimmy Means will get to take home will go a long way, and the high the team will be on from it could sustain them for weeks.
The race was halted almost 28 minutes to clear the track of debris and to make repairs to the energy-absorbing SAFER barriers.
The race's carnage included a total of 10 cautions that also featured two separate red flag periods that totaled more than 45 minutes.
"I thought if I could run two flawless laps and throw as many blocks as it took in those laps that we would be standing right here".
We're all racing hard to complete that first segment.
The first came after a restart on Lap 23 following a caution, Scott Lagasse Jr. mistimed a bump draft on Tyler Reddick in front of him, sending Reddick sideways and into the heart of the field. The Riverton native collected just seven points in the championship standings and finds himself in 25th.
