There was a fear of rain earlier in the day, as showers in the morning threatened to cloud the red carpet festivities that ushers in the best of Hollywood ahead of the Oscars.
Pictured, actress Emma Roberts strikes a pose in an Armani Privé gown.
With accessories from Irene Neuwirth crown and earrings covered in Gemfields rubies, the actress looked stunning.
Dakota Johnson, star of the popular film series "50 Shades of Grey", also wowed in gold. Having walked her fair share of red carpets throughout her illustrious career, she's become a total pro at dressing for movie premieres, award shows and charity galas.
"Gold is the colour of the night", she said at the red carpet. But I know that she will make her triumphant red carpet return soon, so I'll just have to wait until then. What happens when the Oscars red carpet gets wet?
The relative newcomer Ruth Negga has been making style waves this award season (she was also on the cover of Vogue magazine). It requires a flawless blend of the right actress understand how the public sees her and choosing to wear (over the opinions of publicists and designers) the right design at the right point in their careers.
As the actress made her way down the red carpet, waving to photographers as she walked, Meryl tripped on her stunning blue gown and nearly ended up head first on the carpet rather than walking down it.
Ginnifer Goodwin wore a red long-sleeved Zuhair Murad lace gown.
Nominated for best actress for her role in "Elle", Isabelle Huppert dazzled on the red carpet in a long sleeve, embellished off-white gown designed by Armani Prive. The only exceptions being Dev Patel, Jamie Dronan, Octavia Spencer, in white and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in blue.
